Boy Scout Summer Camping Program

T.L. Storer Scout Camp

Overview

Located in the heart of New Hamphire the property that we now call T.L. Storer has been the home to Scout camps for more than five decades. The reservation is far enough away from the city to truly be an outdoor adventure but close enough that it's easily accessible from Boston and most of New England. Storer's rich tradition, vibrant atmosphere and well trained staff make it the place to spend your summer.

If you've never had the opportunity to visit T.L. Storer Scout Camp in person, then take a few moments to visit the camp online.  Use our online virtual camp tour to visit all of the areas of camp.

Camp Program

Scouts can attend a single week of summer camp or multiple weeks. How?

Attending Camp with a Chartered Unit

T.L. Storer runs as a traditional Scout Camp with many of the hallmarks of a good Scout Camp including: 2 Waterfronts, Trailblazer (first year), Scoutcraft, Nature (Ecology and Conservation), C.O.P.E. and Climbing, campfires, campwide games, and an unbelievable staff! Most Scouts come with their Unit and are under the capable hands of their Unit Leader's.

High Adventure Program

We will continue to offer a revamped High Adventure program. Treks will include both unit based and provisional varieties. We will provide most of the gear needed as well as National Camp School certified Trek Guides.

Preapproval is necessary for registration. Please contact 2010 Trek Director, Sean Matthews, at TLStorerTrek@gmail.com or (617) 850-5435 for more information. If you are interested in a Trek, please fill out this form and a member of the Trek staff will contact you!

Attending camp without a Chartered Unit

Troop Gilwell - A smaller contingent comes and stays in Storer's Troop Gilwell which is a provisional unit for Scouts that can't come when their unit is coming or want to come back for more weeks of camp.

Specialty Week - The first week of the summer is reserved for specialty week. Instead of spending the week going from one program area to another scouts spend the entire week doing things from one area inlcuding excersions out of camp. This year we will offer:

  • Eagle Week
  • Scheutzen Week (shooting sports)
  • Waterworld
  • Adventure Climbing
  • Fishing Week

Camp Fees

Take a look around.  You'll find that a week at T.L. Storer is a great value.  Why?  We are able to keep costs down and the facilities in great shape because of the many donations of time, funds and labor by our many scouting volunteers, camp alumni and community supporters.  Thanks!!!

Additional leaders will be charged $85 per week. Adults that will not be attending for the entire week may opt to buy meals individually at a cost of $4.00 for breakfast, $5.00 for lunch, and $6.00 for dinner. If a unit is cooking in site but would like to eat one or more meals in the dining hall they must notify the Camp Director at least 2 weeks prior to camp. The unit will be charged the meal fee for each person eating in the dining hall.

Refunds/Cancellations

Refunds of camp fees (exclusive of deposits) will be considered only if written communication is submitted to the council office two weeks prior to the scheduled arrival date. Deposits are not refundable. Refunds will be issued for the unused portion (exclusive of deposits) for a Scout who leaves camp for a verifiable medical reason. Homesickness is not considered a “refundable” medical reason. Camp fees are transferable to another Scout in your unit. No refunds can be granted for any reason after August 31, 2010.

Camperships

The Boston Minuteman Council has limited funds available to assist Scouts in attending camp (cub scout day camp, cub scout resident camp, webelos resident camp and boy scout summer camp). Requests are approved when simple criteria are met. It is expected that the Scout’s family and unit will fund some portion of the Scout’s camp fee; the Council will strive to subsidize the remainder. As a rule of thumb, the Council is willing to consider up to half the fee for camp.

Some communities have campership resources within the community and leaders from those communities are encouraged to explore those resources first so that more young people can be assisted.

Campership applications must be submitted on or before Feb 28, 2010 along with a $50.00 deposit.

Chartered Units

Troop Sign-up

Boy scout troops that are attending camp as a unit with their own unit leadership need to sign up for camp as a troop.  Troops already attending Storer will usaully sign up for the following year before they leave summer camp.  If this is your first year attending camp, then complete and mail into the council office the Camp Reservation Form as soon as possible to reserve your campsite for the coming year.

Individual Scout Registration

The unit leader will receive a special logon and password from the council to allow them to register the scouts that will be attending from thier troop.  The unit leader will also be able to register scouts for the merit badges that each scout wished to participate in as well.

Provisional Unit

The provisional unit is for Scouts that can't come when their unit is coming to camp or the scout wants to come back for more weeks of camp.

For those scouts, a parent needs to register thier son by clicking on the Provisional Link for the week you want these can be found at the right had side of this page

If any assistance is needed with the registration process, please contact John Randall at the council office at jrandall@bsaboston.org or 617-615-0004 x318.

Camp Staff/CIT Program

Camp Staff —Highly skilled youth and adult members are recruited and trained.  Key camp staff members are required to be certified through national. training events.

BSA camps utilize highly qualified camp staff members. Because these individuals are not responsible for taking a troop leadership role, they can utilize their unique skills and teaching abilities for mentoring purposes.

Youth camp staff members are young enough to connect with Scouts on a social level, but experienced and mature enough to serve as a role model.

Benefits of Working on Camp Staff:

  • Living at camp for the summer
  • Earning some spending $$
  • Helping Scouts have fun, learn and grow
  • Room and Board
  • Meeting new friends, or hanging with old ones
  • Developing advanced leadership skills
  • Gaining valuable work experience

Camp Accreditation

Camp Accreditation —Annual camp visits by trained volunteers and professionals ensure the following:

  • Camps are checked to ensure that health and safety standards are met through an annual BSA accreditation process.
  • Camps show that important program elements required for Scouts to have meaningful learning experiences are in place.
