Dear Scoutmasters,
The 2010 Unit Elections season is upon us!
Now is the time to schedule an Order of the Arrow Election for your unit.
The Order of the Arrow is Scouting's National Honor Society and exists to recognize those Scouts that best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. To become a member, Scouts are elected by their fellow Scouts; OA members and non-members alike. New members are inducted into our lodge at either the Spring or Fall Ordeal Weekends in May and September respectively.
In order for a Scout to be eligible for Order of the Arrow election, they must meet the candidate eligibility requirements.
Your unit may request an election to be conducted at any Troop meeting before May 1, 2010, and we ask these requests be made no later than March 29th.
To request your election, please use the included form and/or send the information requested on the form via US Mail, fax or email.
Once your information has been received, we will contact you as soon as possible to confirm a date. On the night of the election, in order for the election to take place, atleast 50% of the youth (under 18) on your roster must be present. Candidates need not be present to be elected. All OA members in the unit are encouraged to wear their sashes.
Any Troop electing at least one youth may have its Troop Committee nominate one adult, whose candidacy is contingent on the Lodge Adult Selection Committee's approval. Adults must fill the same camping requirements as youth. Troops with over fifty youth may nominate one adult for every fifty youth they have registered.
